Fiber One Toaster Pastries                                    Return to Food Review

I'll be perfectly honest and say pastries are not really my thing.  They tend to be a little dry, and from a nutritional standpoint there are other things I would much rather spend my daily calories on since I limit processed foods.  One day I was looking for a snack standby to keep in my car, and I spotted General Mills Fiber One Toaster Pastries at the supermarket.

Right away I was interested in trying this product because I thought just maybe it would have at least a little more substance than other toaster pastries.

I was pleased with my investment in both time and money.  The pastry crust was  substantial and felt as thought it was made of a more natural whole grain rather than the over-processed white flour of other pastries.  The fiber content was impressive, and the fruit filling was tasty and just the right amount of "gooey".  The brown sugar and cinnamon variety was also delicious.

I must say I was unimpressed with the calorie content.  At almost 200 calories per pastry it's a really tough to feel good about going back to eat the second pastry in the pouch, but leaving it there all alone garners fears of crumbs leaking out and staleness setting in.  Suddenly my convenient snack has become a worry and a bother.  Perhaps down the road they will introduce a lower calorie version or maybe rethink the packaging.

Here's hoping!
