If you're the sort of person who is
running to the vending machine every day and filling your mid-afternoon
hunger with chips or candy bars, then perhaps it's time to consider a
change to your habits.
For many of us who are busy
working a full-time job, it's not easy remembering to eat well.
Incorporating these three key habits every day will allow you to eat
well, keep you running efficiently and satisfy your need to much, crunch and nibble.
1. Pack snacks the night before:
If you go to work or school
without a stash of healthy snacks at your helm, you are much more
likely to resort to junk when you are hungry. Pangs of hunger will have
you settling for vending machines beckoning to you from the hallways,
fast food restaurants glaring at you from the roadside, and even that
dish full of stale candy that's been on the receptionist's desk for 3
months.
2. Cook your own foods:
When you prepare your own meals,
you have control over the quality of the ingredients and the amount of
salt, oil, and fat. Prepackaged dinners and restaurant meals are not
prepared with your health in mind. They are prepared to keep well until
they reach you, the consumer. As a result, the levels of sodium,
preservatives, and the sometimes unnatural cooking methods employed to
get your food to you piping hot will leave you with an unhealthy lump
in your digestive system.
3. Cook more than your share:
If you have difficulty finding
the time to cook and prepare your own meals, then a little planning
ahead will go a long way. On whatever day you have available to run
errands such as shopping, and complete household chores, make cooking a
part of that day. Plan for several meals throughout the week. Cook
them, portion them out and either refrigerate or freeze them. That way
you will always have a meal ready to pop in the microwave even when
you're pressed for time or too tired to cook.
