Fuddruckers
is a somewhat old-fashioned burger joint with a twist. They've given
themselves the moniker of "World's Greatest Hamburger", and they work
hard to make sure it's a title that's well-deserved with 100% fresh
ground beef, and interesting choices like "The Three-Cheese burger",
"Black and Bleu" with smokehouse bacon, bleu cheese, and balsamic
glazed onions, and "The Inferno", which is complete with jalapeno
peppers, onions, and pepper jack cheese. Even the bun is serious
business at Fuddruckers. They employ fresh-baked brioche buns specially
designed to stand up to and compliment their hefty, juicy burgers.

More
upscale than a fast food joint, but saving you gratuity with their
do-it-yourself process, Fuddruckers' locations may differ slightly in
furnishings or color scheme, but they generally keep to the same model.
Families love Fuddruckers because parents can sit back while their
older kids play video games in the arcade, and the smaller children are
entertained with balloons and the flashy plastic cup that comes with
their kids' meal.

If you're going to a Fuddruckers for the first time, be prepared for a few things:
First,
the noise level of music and families. It's not quite as bad as a
carnival, but if you're expecting a quiet, romantic meal of burgers
with your sweetie this probably wouldn't be the best choice.
Second,
be prepared to give yourself a little extra time to read and decipher
the menu. There are a lot of choices, and for a first-timer it can be a
little daunting, especially if you're used to ordering a combo meal or
one ordinary entree from a menu.
Finally,
be prepared to have a difficult time deciding what to order.
Fuddruckers makes it a point to try to appeal to everyone. If burgers
aren't your thing, you also have the option of a quality,
super-sized hot dog on a soft, buttery bun. If chicken is your passion,
you can order a fresh grilled chicken
sandwich on the same tasty bun as the beef burger. If you want the feel
of a burger in a lower-fat alternative, you have the choice of a
delicious turkey burger or buffalo burger. Once you've tried buffalo,
you may find it's similar enough to hamburger to coax you to switch it
up once in a while. Feeling like fish and chips instead? Go ahead. If
you're really not into meat, Fudd's still has you covered with a great veggie burger.
To drink, you can get a soft drink, a beer, or a thick, full-sized milkshake. Your french fries will be
big, wedge-cut fries, and if they're not enough to satisfy your
appetite, you can get a side of hot-wings, nachos, or fried mozzarella.
At
Fuddruckers, you get to choose what size hamburger you want. They come
in 1/3 pound, 1/2 pound, 2/3 pound, and 1 pound precooked weight. You
let them know how well done you want it (they insist on at least medium
for safety's sake). In the old days, you'd be given a number and wait
to hear it called out from the grill, but in many Fuddruckers
locations, they now provide you with a beeper. Once you scope out a
table, all you have to do is wait until your beeper shakes, rattles and
rolls to let you know your order is up. Once you receive your item off
the grill, the next step is the toppings bar, where you get to layer
your masterpiece with your own careful design of fresh lettuce leaves,
thinly sliced tomatoes, onions,
jalapenos and pepperoncini, pickles, ketchup, mustard, relish, and
barbecue sauce.
Fuddruckers
is all about big, beautiful portions, so beware. If you're on your
weekly eat-whatever-I-feel-like-cheat-meal, have at it! Otherwise, you
may want to divide your portion in half and bring the rest home - two
meals for the price of one! When I first tried Fuddruckers, I tried the
burger, of course. Even the smallest burger was a lot of burger. On my
second visit I tested out the hotdog, which seemed more like a sub
based on the size of the bun, but was less filling than the hamburger.
On my third visit to Fuddruckers, I ordered a salad. When I noted the
price on the menu board, I was a little miffed that the salad was
priced so high. That is, until I received the salad and nearly had a
heart attack. This was not a salad plate. It was a salad platter.
Literally. It could have fed a family. If you plan to bring some home,
a wise choice is to get
the dressing on the side so that your salad will
make it home without getting too soggy.
Most Fuddruckers also have desert options, too. You can enjoy a freshly baked brownie or some
chocolate chip cookies. In some locations, you can even get ice cream, pie, and other assorted desserts!
