Love Your Hair Return to Style and Fashion
By LifeAdviceSite.com
Sure, hair isn't alive and is made of keratinized
protein, but did you know that hair is actually quite delicate and
should be treated gently? We can't see it because it is only visible
at microscopic levels, but a strand of hair is actually composed of
several layers. The translucent outer cuticle is made up of a
structure similar to scales. When the hair is healthy, well-cared for
and shiny, those scales are smooth and all flow in the same direction.
Frizzy, fried and unhealthy care is the result of a damaged cuticle and
at magnified levels, those scales look quite frazzled indeed.

Most
of us don't even realize how rough we are on our hair. We rip brushes
through the thicket, tear through tangles, strip the strands with harsh
shampoos and tug straighteners and curling irons through with
disastrous zest. After a while we look at those straggly strands and
wonder why our hair looks so dried and lifeless.
The good news is that hair is constantly growing, and it's very
responsive. We can make changes in our hair care routine and start
reversing some of the damage we may have been causing unknowingly.
Decide right now to start loving your hair again, and try to treat it
gently in all things.

Some of the major enemies to hair are already well-known. Over-styling
and processing should be avoided at all costs. If you do have to use a
flat iron or curling iron, remember to move it through the hair and
don't spend too much time on any one area. This can lead to
scorching. Over-shampooing is another culprit of damaged hair. Most
of us actually shampoo too often. Shampoo your hair only every other
day or less if you can manage. You
might also try switching to an organic or homemade shampoo that is
gentler on the hair and scalp.
|
If using a hair brush, choose one with round bristles. The round
bristles are more gentle on the hair than regular bristles. Combs
should be wide-toothed and seamless if possible. This prevents any
uneven edges that might catch on individual strands and cause damage.
We should always comb or brush through hair as gently as possible, and
forget that old tip about brushing 100 times a day for shiny hair. We
only need to brush or comb our hair to work out tangles and mold the
hair for styling. Brushing the hair can help to coat the hair strands
with the natural oils that accumulate at the scalp, but any excessive
brushing can actually do more harm than good. At night, consider pinning the hair up and using a satin pillowcase.
Not only is satin soft and luxurious, it allows the hair strands to
glide across the surface and remain smooth and undamaged.

Remember while hair may technically qualify as something that is not
alive, it is not indestructible and the roots are very much alive. We
have to treat it gently. When we love our hair and treat it with
respect, it will flourish and shine with even more beauty for us to
love. Win-win.
